Unit 7 to 10 (Karin Brunswick)

Persuade someone to buy a product
Persuasion means giving users the information they need to make an informed choice.
1.    Show what others are doing
People feel reassured and often make decisions based upon what other people are up to - the assumption being that they possess more knowledge or are better informed than they are.
2. Show user-generated reviews
User-generated reviews can have a massive influence on peoples' buying decisions.
3. Show scarcity of products
People want what they think they can't have and social psychology would indicate that loss is a more powerful emotion than gain.
4. Persuade with pictures & videos
Imagery is a very persuasive tool in increasing product sales especially for high value and luxury goods, so be sure to provide good quality images of products.
5. Cross- and up-sell
Once people have committed to a purchase, persuading them to buy more becomes easier as one foot is already in the door. The same applies online too.
6. Show authority
The principle of authority states that we're more easily persuaded by those with authority.
Unit 8 chapter4
Describe care for elderly
Care assistants provide practical day to day help with the care of an elderly person. Good care assistants will also be watchful of your needs as the primary carer. Care assistants will:

- Get to know the elderly person that they are caring for and understand their needs

- Provide assistance with daily personal care such as washing, dressing, using the toilet and meal times
- Do general tasks around the house like cleaning, washing and preparing light meals

- Offer help with personal interests such as letter writing

- Provide advice to the primary carer on how to look after the elderly person
* Liaise with healthcare professionals on matters concerning the elderly person's health
* Help organise outings and other recreational activities.
Unit 9 Chapter 2
Present a theory about a past event
The Bermuda Triangle
The "Bermuda Triangle" or "Devil's Triangle" is an imaginary area located off the southeastern Atlantic coast of the United States of America, which is noted for a supposedly high incidence of unexplained disappearances of ships and aircraft. The apexes of the triangle are generally believed to be Bermuda; Miami, Florida; and San Juan, Puerto Rico. The US Board of Geographic Names does not recognize the Bermuda Triangle as an official name. The US Navy does not believe the Bermuda Triangle exists. It is reported that Lloyd's of London, the world's leading market for specialist insurance, does not charge higher premiums for vessels transiting this heavily traveled area.
A significant factor with regard to missing vessels in the Bermuda Triangle is a strong ocean current called the Gulf Stream. It is extremely swift and turbulent and can quickly erase evidence of a disaster. The weather also plays its role. Prior to the development of telegraph, radio and radar, sailors did not know a storm or hurricane was nearby until it appeared on the horizon. For example, the Continental Navy sloop Saratoga was lost off the Bahamas in such a storm with all her crew on 18 March 1781. Many other US Navy ships have been lost at sea in storms around the world. Sudden local thunder storms and water spouts can sometimes spell disaster for mariners and air crews. Finally, the topography of the ocean floor varies from extensive shoals around the islands to some of the deepest marine trenches in the world. With the interaction of the strong currents over the many reefs the topography of the ocean bottom is in a state of flux and the development of new navigational hazards can sometimes be swift.

Unit 7 to 10 (Hector Quilantan)

Discuss your reaction to ads
The first thing that I think when I see an ad for the first time is, if the product mentioned on the ad will be useful for me because it bothers me when a product doesn’t have the things that they announce with the real things that it can do. I am always thinking in how many products are emerging from the scientist or from companies that are in charge of innovating things, but also it blows me away that always the products are presented like the perfect one that fits to your needs and when you get it, it doesn’t work as you thought it would do. Ads for me in a few words, they bother me in the sense that almost all the times, they make me feel that I need it no matter how much it costs, they involved me since the first time I saw them.

Compare Generations
I’ve to say that my generation is the best one in comparison with the younger ones. It shows a lot of development as persons and also as students. It blows my mind when younger generations ask me for help; it’s something that you can’t describe with words you have to live it in order to know how does it feel. The biggest difficulty that I see on the younger generations is that the technology is affecting them seriously for example, when I was 11 I barely know about the cellphones now kids of 8 or 9 years, they’ve already got a blackberry, and facebook too, so nobody will expect how our society will be in a couple of years. Everyone’s expectation needs to be the right one for the future, not the most comfortable or the easiest, it has to be the right one, the one that would conduct our world to the best future that we expected.

Describe hobbies and interests
My hobbies are kind of normal, the first one is that I love soccer playing and watching it. Every Saturday since I have memory I go to the soccer stadium of my favorite team to watch them win. Also I like to play soccer I play as a defender I haven’t play in a well formed team I prefer to play with my friends. And the other hobby that could maybe be the weirdest one is that I love to mix some music, I am a DJ, I love to play some mixes in my turntables and to create some beats just for fun, by the way, I’ve played in some parties and it's one of the best experiences that I've ever lived.

Discuss how believable a story is.
A story is believable for me when it shows facts or proves that it really happened. If something it’s not provable then it didn’t happen. For example when you were a kid, the stories that you heard in that time from your parents or from your grandparents were precisely legends that had something that could be believable but the rest of the history was invented by them. As a kid you don’t have the enough intellectual capacity in order to understand the difference between the unreal stories and the real ones, now that I have grown up, when somebody tells me a story it’s a requirement for me to receive concrete facts.

Unit 7 to 10 (Alvaro Rts)

Unit 7 Chapter 1
give shopping advice

An important part that we saw in this part of the unit was the vocabulary that we can use when going to purchase a shopping center. The following vocabulary can be used when shopping: browser, haggle, bargain, shop around, shop and window shop camparison. Then I'll provide some tips for shopping. 1. If you are an informal market should always ask the value of products, because then they are misleading. 2. If you are in an informal market always tries to haggle the price. 3. Browse through the shops, never go for the first option, because you can get the best price. 4. If you liked something in the window, go to see the price.

Unit 8 Chapter 1
Describe family trends

In this unit we look at the comparative One of the ways in which we use when we use adjectives is a comparative way. In the role of comparative adjectives, short adjectives must ending in  "er" and long adjectives must have "more", both must contain the "than" to complete the function. for example The Amazon River is greater than the Rio Grande The beer is more expensive than water. A longer example is: My grandmother told me that before the houses were smaller than those now living in those houses more than 10 people, now live only 3 or 4.

Unit 9  Chapter 4
Evaluate the trustworthiness of news sources

why do you think the media get fooled by sensational hoaxes? Why do they seem to publish these stories so quitly?
Do you think hoaxes should be considered a crime, or are they harmless?
I think this kind of publications are generating money for newspapers or magazines. I think these publications are successful because people like to think of imaginary things, because they create a sense of mystery and unknown, like the Loch Ness Monster is one of the world's most famous rumors, although not proven if it is true or fake people want to visit the lake in search of truth, this helps the community of Ness by what means an income from tourism. I think this kind of jokes are interesting and let you see beyond the routine.

Unit 10 Chapter 1
Explain the benefits of leisure activities

Which, if any, leisure activities do you do?  Which would you like to take up someday?
In my spare time I like to do various activities, a hobby that I practice is a long Zudoku, I like and you have to think and try not to make mistakes. I also like playing video games occasionally. I really do not practice physical activities, but what if you make a couple of years ago was playing football, I was actually on a team. As a child I was collecting stamps hoobi, good at my school I remember many of my friends coleccionábamos. Although in the future I would like to learn to play tennis because I like it because it is dynamic and very competitive, I'd like to learn chess.

Discuss parent-teen issues

It is very common for parents and children have disputes, arguments, problems and different points of view, not only in general aspects of everyday life, but also in the way of being towards each other. In fact, the root of the problems between parents and children comes mainly from two aspects: Generational differences and the different family role. The children live another "world" than his parents lived.

Unit 9 chapter 1
Speculate about the out-of-the-ordinary

Ordinary is an adjective that can appoint a common and regular happening on a regular or frequent. For example: "Do not worry, this is an ordinary and common disease among children under five years".
One day out of the ordinary is when you do the same daily routine.

Unit 10 chapter 4
Discuss the risk-taking personality

Risk-taking is a quality that reflects the degree of comfort that one has to take risks or try new things. It does not imply neglect - for example, one can be a cautious risk taker. People who qualify under this scale tend to prefer well-established conventional methods on those in which failure could occur. Extreme sports are some riverboarding, snowboarding, kitesurfing, sandboarding, windsurfing.
